PUPILS and teachers alike were celebrating at Ysgol Glan y Mor in Pwllheli on Thursday morning after all their hard work paid off.
Recently retired headmaster Mr Gareth Jones, who returned to the school for one last time as the pupils collected their GCSE results, was very pleased to be leaving on such a high note.
He said: "These are the best results ever – I am very pleased.
"I am also very grateful to the children and teachers for all their hard work – it's all been worth it to see all the smiling faces this morning.
"The pupils are now reaping the rewards of all their hard work."
Mr Jones reported that Science results had improved dramatically with an almost 20% increase in pass grades.
One pupil who had particular reason to celebrate was Marta Parry-Jones from Trefor who was one of the top scorers with three A* in English, English literature and Welsh and A's in art, history, maths, science and applied business and a B in French.
She said; "I am extremely pleased but I wish I'd done better in French.
Marta is now looking forward to studying history, art, English literature and French for A levels at nearby Coleg Meirion Dwyfor.
Her friend, Yasmina Hamdaoui, also had a reason to celebrate after she got five A*, four A's and two B's.
She said: "I'm going to study biology, chemistry, physics and French for A levels.
"These results are so much better than expected."
Other pupils busy celebrating included Bethan Owen from Trefor with eight A*, two A's and one B and Sion Dwyfor Parry from Chwilog who was pleased with six A* and five A's.
Even though Jack Roberts from Llannor managed to score two A*, eight A's and one B, he will not be going forward to study A levels as he has been awarded a rugby scholarship at Coleg Llanymddyfri.
