Young Mynytho artist wins fire safety poster competition

A BUDDING artist has come out tops in a prestigious poster design award.

Gethin Rhys Thomas, 10, from Mynytho beat off stiff competition from over 6,500 hopefuls to win first prize in a competition which asked entrants to design a poster promoting fire safety on bonfire night.

The Ysgol Foelgron pupil used a combination of 3D materials and brightly coloured backgrounds to create a collage for Fire Flash – a fire safety initiative which runs throughout Wales.

Ysgol Foelgron headmistress Manon Owen said: “Gethin was overjoyed when he found out he’d won.

“The whole school is very proud of him. It’s a fantastic piece of work.

“Gethin is a very meticulous pupil and evidently a lot of work has gone into it.”

As part of his prize, Gethin was awarded £50 in high street vouchers and won £100 towards the school.
