Stranger tries to entice children into car at Caernarfon

POLICE have issued a "stranger danger" alert after a man tried to entice young girls into his car in Caernarfon on Friday night.

Officers have pleaded with parents to be vigilant and warned children not to talk to strangers after the man approached several young girls playing in the Gallt-y-Sil public park.

The man spoke with the children and offered them sweets. Some of the girls took the sweets and he then asked them to get into his car.

They all refused and ran home to alert their parents - nobody was injured during the approach.

Police inquires into the incident, which took place at 8pm on Friday night, are already underway.

The man is described as being white; aged in his 20’s, with a ginger coloured goatee type beard, who spoke with an English accent.

The vehicle he was driving was described as being black in colour with blacked out windows and, possibly, red coloured upholstery inside.

Sergeant Neil Hughes said: "Patrols are being carried out in the area to reassure the community and our enquiries are ongoing. The children did exactly the right thing by running home to tell their parents.

"With the summer holidays in full swing I would ask parents to remind their children of the stranger danger messages - don’t talk to or accept lifts or gifts from strangers."

House to house enquiries have been carried out in the area and officers are still trying to establish further details of the incident, he added

Anyone who may have been in the area and who may have seen any suspicious behaviour, or who may have seen a man matching this description is asked to contact North Wales Police on 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line) 0845 607 1002 (English line) quoting the reference number J150806 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
