Cricket: Pwllheli have promotion in their sights

NORTHOP 2NDS (2) 98 PWLLHELI (8) 148-7

NORTH WALES LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

WITH two games remaining promotion is very much in second-placed Pwllheli’s hands after a great all-round performance from Ben Jones inspired the team to an 8-2 success at Flint Road.

Put into bat, Jones finished 43 not out, striking two fours and a pair of sixes, as Pwll set 148 for seven off their 45 overs.

Nadeem Rehman added 27, Paul Gower and Richard Knowles 19 apiece and Neil Williams 14, while Jordan Evans bagged three for 19 for the hosts.

Northop were then bowled out for 95, Rehman collecting three for 19 and Jones three for 28 to wrap up a convincing 53-run triumph.

Pwllheli are home to Abergele this Sunday and then visit Halkyn in their final game on September 13.

The Llyn side are just a point behind division two leaders Bersham and four in front of third- placed Dolgellau.

Pwllheli 2nds won their division five match against Mynydd Isa 2nds on a walkover when the visitors were unable to raise a side. Pwll pick up nine points – the average of other winning scores in the division.
