Football: Caernarfon Town FC improve but still lose

AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON 4 CAERNARFON TOWN 3

WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE

THE Canaries go into this Friday’s home clash with Welshpool Town still seeking their first point, but they came mighty close to opening their account in last week’s thriller at The Airfield.

David Rowe’s side continues to improve as it settles to the demands of the WPL and surely a first win is around the corner.

Airbus drew first blood in last Friday’s encounter, Paul Hallows latching on to a Wes Kilgannon through ball and slotting past Town keeper Craig Dunn.

Kilgannon was also the creator of the second seven minutes later, linking with Ryan Edwards before laying off to James McIntosh to smash home.

It became 3-0 in the 25th minute when a poor clearance from Dunn was volleyed back over the stranded keeper from just inside his own half by the enterprising McIntosh.

Caernarfon pulled one back before half time when Warren Waugh headed past Phil Palethorpe.

The Wingmakers missed chances to increase their lead before on 59 minutes Palethorpe upended Dale Wright and Tom Moore converted from the spot to make it 3-2.

Substitute Phil Molyneux settled Airbus nerves when he tapped in from Hallows’ pass on 69 minutes, but the game was far from over.

Moore was brought down by Palethorpe only to miss the resulting penalty, but in the 85th minute the experienced Lee Furlong curled in Caernarfon’s third to set up a frantic finish.

Caernarfon: Dunn, Brook, E Jones, Wright, Whelan (Hughes 52), Moore, Johnson (Grice 76), Furlong, Waugh, Addo, Dawes.

Newtown boss Darren Ryan has reportedly put in seven days’ notice for Caernarfon striker Paul Addo.
