Football: Porthmadog FC beaten at Bangor City FC

BANGOR CITY 3 PORTHMADOG 0

LEAGUE CUP GROUP FOUR

TIMES are tough for Porthmadog and they do not get any easier with Welsh Premier leaders Rhyl the next visitors to Y Traeth this Friday (7.30pm).

Paul Whelan’s side are one off the bottom of the WPL after Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Caersws and also prop up League Cup Group Four following Tuesday’s 3-0 setback at Bangor.

The game at Farrar Road was all over inside the first half hour.

Sloppy play from Ryan Davies in just the second minute allowed his brother Les, a former Port player, to blast home from 20 yards.

In the 12th minute Marc Limbert’s free- kick was poorly defended and James Brewerton’s shot was deflected past debutant keeper Dave Vickers.

It got worse for Port on 26 minutes when Les Davies was allowed time and space to turn and convert a Sion Edwards cross.

City keeper Paul Smith was forced into good saves from Carl Jones and Iwan Tomos after the break as Port tried to produce some positive moments.

Another poor defensive performance cost Port dear at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Chris Melia gave the Bluebirds a 21st minute lead before John Rowley equalised.

Port were caught napping at the start of the second half as Mark Davies and Steve Futcher made it 3-1 and a reply by Marc Lloyd Williams via a superb 25-yard free- kick was not enough.

Porthmadog FC Academy will be holding trials for their youth teams on Sunday, September 14 at Clwb Chwaraeon Madog at the following times: under-14s and 16’s 10.30 to 11.30am and under-12s 12pm-1pm.

Players must be associated with a junior league club.
