FACING a stiff uphill task was all in the game for athletes who took part in a true test of endurance at the weekend.
The World Trophy Uphill Only Trial Race at Llanberis on Sunday attracted a very good turnout.
Despite a delay because of a road traffic accident by Gallt y Glyn, and the early adverse weather, there was excellent competition all round.
In the senior men’s race Steve Vernon won in a very good time of 52.40 with first Welshman Tim Davies ninth overall in 56.28.
First Eryri Harrier was Richard Roberts, 19th in 58.50, with Rob Samuel 32nd in 62.02. In 42nd was James McQueen in 71.13 and Paul Jenlinson came 44th in 72.38.
In the combined senior women/junior men’s race which was won by Helm Hill’s Tom Addison in 45.12, New Zealander Anna Frost was third overall and first female in an excellent time of 45.46.
Ricky Challinor had a very good run to finish second (first Welsh) in 45.40 with Eryri’s Paul Wathan 13th in 49.58.
Jackie Lee was first Welsh female in 54.18 with Andrea Roberts, still suffering the effects of a knee injury picked up at Borrowdale, 13th female in 56.50. Gemma Morgans completed the junior women's race in 33.26.
Following the trial race, Eryri’s Richard Roberts, Alun Vaughan, Sarah Ridgway and Andrea Roberts have been selected to represent Wales at the World Mountain Running Trophy at Sierre Crans- Montana Switzerland on Sunday, September 14.
