Meic Stevens in free gig at Caernarfon's Galeri

LEGENDARY singer-songwriter, Meic Stevens of Solva will be performing a free show in Caernarfon this week.

The special event on May 15 is being held to mark the launch of the long-awaited second part of his autobiography, Y Crwydryn a Mi.

The Galeri set is being held, appropriately, at the bar where he will perform an intimate set.

Meic’s latest publication book is gives you a backstage pass to his haphazard world. Packed with vivid descriptions of places, events and characters that shared his life, it also gives readers the inside story behind some of his greatest songs.

It starts with Meic’s trips to Brittany where he wrote the highly acclaimed album Gog.  He then goes on to share tales of his hedonistic life here in Wales, where he spent time in Bethesda, Harlech and Cardiff.

Meic said, "The autobiography is a way of reinforcing my work, and also a way of explaining what sort of creature I am and the way I live my life. I find it much harder to compose songs than to write a book. I can write anywhere – on trains, on the bus, walking down the street even. Most of this book was written in pubs or on the train, with a simple pen and paper."

The book also includes never- before-published photos from the period that gives an insightful view of the young, charismatic Meic Stevens.

Editor Lefi Gruffudd said: "This is a real party of a read that takes us through the most wild and productive period in Meic Stevens’ life. During this period, he built his reputation as one of Welsh pop’s true heroes.

"We are confident that this book will prove to be as popular as his first which got a fantastic response."

Y Crwydryn a Mi is available in local bookshops now, priced £9.95.

Meic will be at Galeri on May 15 from 6pm.
