Lost touch with people

THE July 17 issue contained a letter of a derogatory nature referring to Llais Gwynedd, the party I and others joined when its prime movers organised an explanatory meeting in Porthmadog.

The facts and figures relevant to the school closure issue in Gwynedd were disseminated and those present decided to form a party to oppose the stance of the Plaid Cymru ruling group on this issue. Other fundamental issues were also giving us cause for concern.

Cllr Sian Gwenllian, the author of “Only interested in whingeing, complaining and wooing the press!”, from the tone and substance of her missive, expects Llais Gwynedd councillors to assume there has been a volte-face regarding her party’s attitude towards communities.

Plaid Cymru top brass in Gwynedd don’t yet seem to have properly faced up to the chasm which has opened up between them and the people who elected them, as demonstrated by last May’s election results.

I would suggest Plaid Cymru might consider waving an olive branch, with an admission that they were at fault by not being in touch with their grass roots as they should have been.

Llais Gwynedd is now a fact of life, and a body they are going to have to work with from now on.
