Refuse deal is rubbish

ONCE again Plaid Cymru members on Gwynedd Council have shown complete contempt for the care of our communities.

As reported in the Herald, last week’s motion before the Dwyfor area committee to reinstate weekly refuse collections was defeated as Plaid councillors, supported by the Independents and Lib Dems, denied Dwyfor the same weekly collections as the rest of Gwynedd.

Needless to say the proposal was unanimously supported by Llais Gwynedd who oppose fortnightly refuse collections as being uneconomic, without any real contribution towards the promotion of re-cycling processes as well as being an obvious threat to public health.

But the Plaid contingent on the Dwyfor committee refused en bloc to recognise these important considerations.

During the debate one Plaid member described Llais Gwynedd’s attempt to provide this fundamental right of weekly refuse disposal as ‘lacking in imagination’. That’s rich coming from a group that six months ago advocated widespread school closures whatever the needs of individual communities.

When will these people learn they can’t carry on providing second rate services to their own supporters? Don’t they realise the consequences of their actions? Haven’t they learnt from May’s disastrous election results for Plaid in Gwynedd. Apparently not.

Cllr ALWYN GRUFFYDDLlais Gwynedd, Tremadog
