Facts on social housing

THE pressure group Defend Council Housing seems to be working under the impression that council tenants can’t read. Read

Not interested in party squabbling

I WROTE a couple of weeks ago about the increase in letters to the Herald and other local papers from parliamentary candidates, disgruntled party supporters, and elected councillors acting like children in constantly belittling each other over policies that have absolutely nothing to do with their communities. Read

Football’s glory days

TALKING to that brilliant footballer of the 50s and 60s, Tecwyn Evans of Anglesey brought back the memories of that era flooding back. Read

A499 must be sorted quickly

FOR the information of the Herald’s readers I would like to point out that Llanbedrog Community Council called a meeting concerning the constant flooding on the A499. Read

Cut the Ribbon

THE proposed development at Glandon, Pwllheli, was strongly challenged by the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW) during the Gwynedd UDP inquiry in 2005. Read

Not all that special!

YOUR recent front page feature entitled “Destruction of a rural gateway” read like a travelogue. Read

Politics through ages

BEING a former Plaid Cymru member myself, I would appreciate it if I could offer a few comments on the report highlighted by the banner headline “Former Plaid member intends to rejoin the party” (August 21). Read

Bring on the bypass

I WAS surprised to read in the Herald (September 11) that anyone would object to a bypass for Porthmadog. This is a development that most of the people who live here have looked forward to for many years. Read

My thanks to the NHS

I WOULD appreciate being able, via your newspaper, to express my thanks to two medical practices in Pen Lln. Read

Toilet traumas...

WE would like to thank the Porthmadog shops that supported our petition to improve the Porthmadog public toilets; also the many locals and visitors who signed the petition outside the toilets last week. Read

Put a stop to political bores

I AM not one usually to put pen to paper, but having been a long and avid reader of the Herald numerous recent letters from a Trefor Davies of Llanfrothen have now incensed me enough to write. Read

Let’s wait for results of the survey first

THE self-appointed Caernarfon Business Consortium appears to be Victoria Dock led as three of the five instigators are directly linked with the development – Debbie Thomas the Victoria Dock manager; Roy Owen, chairman of the Victoria Dock Joint Venture Board, and Gareth Edwards, owner of a website which carries a mass of Victoria Dock advertising as well as regularly extolling the virtues of this edifice as the best thing that’s happened to Caernarfon. Read

THE letter by Dafyn Jones of Edern (September 9) said that a world class yachting village in Pwllheli would be of help for local people to win medals at the next Olympics and attract Lottery money.

The letter did not mention how to ensure the plan could not be abused to further the policy of drowning the Welsh out with monoglot English immigrants. Read

War is not in the name of God

THE article by Alex Hickey in your last week’s edition “Young guns swear in for army action”, about the eleven new army recruits taking the oath in Caernarfon Castle was written as if enlisting was the most meritorious career a young man could possibly pursue. Read

Hotel’s army stance is a disgrace

I WRITE concerning the recent incident at the Metro Hotel, Woking, Surrey, where a Welsh army corporal was refused admission due to his connection with the military. Read

LAST week’s Herald had two further letters expressing concerns regarding the flooding threat in the Pwllheli area.

Since my letter highlighting this danger, I have had lots of contact from people anxious that this problem should be tackled. Read

We live just off Golf Road, and nearly two years ago the flood water was within inches of coming into the house.

Something needs to be done about it, otherwise it will not only be a concern for the A499 by the Polish Home, Riverside, but some of us living in Pwllheli will also be the victims of the rising flood waters. Read

Measures against flooding

I READ with interest the article by Sarah Scott in the Herald last week on the flooding and subsequent temporary closure of the A499 at the entrance of the Polish Home, Penrhos. Read

Post office closures

THE majority of North Wales Labour MPs have been very quiet on proposed post office closures together with a number of other issues which impact adversely on rural communities, and particularly the elderly residents. Read

Wrong ward and chapel

THANK you for your article in last week’s edition. May I please correct two facts? Read
