THE parents of Ffion Wyn Roberts have spoken of their heartbreak and how their lives have been “destroyed” following the murder of their daughter.
The 22-year-old nursing home worker’s funeral is now being planned after North West Wales coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones. authorised the release of her body.
In a statement, Ffion’s parents, Idris and Bethan and her younger brother, Elgan, said: “We cannot begin to describe how the events of our daughter’s death have affected this family.
“We are not able to put into words how heart broken we all are and how our lives have been destroyed.
“Ffion was a kind and caring girl who meant no harm to anyone, she enjoyed life and had so much to look forward to. She was a lovely daughter and will be sadly missed.
“The flowers, cards and touching messages of condolence have been of great support and comfort to us in this difficult time. As a family we are also grateful for the hundreds of callers that have attended at our home.
“We would urge anyone who may have the tiniest piece of information to pass it to the police.”
An inquest into her death was opened yesterday (Wednesday).
The coroner revealed an interim cause of death had been given as a “ligature, strangulation and drowning”.
But Mr Jones warned: “That is an interim cause of death and is subject to investigation and police inquiries are ongoing ”
Releasing the body for burial Mr Jones added there was a duty on a coroner to balance the needs of the police investigation and the wishes of the family.
“Time is now passing. It is more than two weeks and no one has been charged and the question now arises what happens next. The action I propose taking follows established protocol.
“I have made arrangements for a second post mortem examination to be undertaken and both pathologists have informed me they are satisfied no further evidence can be gathered from the body.
“Samples have been taken for histology and toxicology and others retained for any prosecution needs. There is therefore no reason for the body to be retained and there it will be released for burial only.”
North Wales Police officers who were at the brief five minute hearing made no objection to the order.
No details about funeral arrangements have been released but it is likely to be held at Capel Salem, Porthmadog in the next week or so.
