The Herald’s standards
The Caernarfon Herald reports on a place where readers know the people involved, and this policy sets out what that responsibility requires.
Naming the place and the date
Every report says where a decision was taken, when it was taken and which body took it.
A council intention, a consultation and a final decision are three different stages, and the article says which one it describes.
Public records and people
Minutes, planning notices and published statements are quoted directly rather than summarised from another outlet.
A resident is only named with their agreement, and a person facing an allegation is given the chance to answer it.
Corrections in a small area
An error about a local name, place or date travels quickly here, so it is corrected as soon as it is reported.
A correction can be requested through the contact form, and the article carries the date on which it was amended.
Who writes for the Herald
Author pages state which subjects a contributor follows, without claiming a council role or an official position.
Local advertising
Commercial material is labelled and is never presented as coverage of a local body or business.
No advertiser obtains favourable treatment of a planning application, a contract or a licensing decision.
Language and community
Welsh place names and titles are used in the form the community itself uses, and corrections on that point are welcome.
