THE organiser of the Llyn Peninsula’s newest festival is confident it will be a big success.
Mark Durston, who founded and ran the Wakestock festival for 10 years, says preparations are going well for his new Glass Butter Beach Festival, which kicks off in Llanbedrog on Friday, September 2.
Mark hopes the mixture of music, comedy, top sporting action, and a distinctly intimate feel, will attract visitors to the event, and stated it was his opportunity to start from scratch after selling the Wakestock brand last year, and build up his idea of the “perfect festival”.
Mark said: “Ticket sales are doing very well so far, and we are definitely creating a buzz about the festival.
“A lot of thought has gone into Glass Butter Beach, and what kind of atmosphere we want to create. Despite the fact it will be quite intimate we’ll have excellent production values, with the visuals, sound and lighting supplied by our partners VME, really high-end stuff.
“On top of that, we’ll be making the best of our natural environment at Crugan Farm, which will be the home of the campsite, the main stage and dance tent, while the far end of the beach, with its fantastic views, will be sectioned off for our exclusive use and just a short walk from the farm.
“There’ll be another open air stage there, which will provide a really chilled out environment to watch the watersports going on in the bay, and we’ll have beach volleyball, plus BMX and skateboarding ramps.”
The have-a-go element is also extended to watersports, with surfing lessons available at Porth Neigwl (Hells Mouth), where students can rub shoulders with professionals competing in the festival’s surfing competition.
Mark added: “We want people to come here and have a good time and try new things out. Back at Llanbedrog there will be opportunities to learn how to wakeboard, windsurf, and paddleboard.
“I’m hoping to announce more acts, including our headliners, in the next week or so.”
